Drone Strike Targets Key US Diplomatic Hub in Baghdad

(MENAFN) A drone assault struck a significant US diplomatic facility in Iraq on Tuesday, believed to be a retaliatory action by pro-Iran militias as the US-Israeli conflict with Iran escalates, according to a report by a news outlet.

Referencing a security official and an internal US government alert it obtained, the outlet indicated that the strike impacted the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center, a major logistical hub for American diplomats positioned near Iraqi military installations and Baghdad International Airport.

Six drones were reportedly dispatched toward the compound, with five neutralized by air defense systems and one successfully hitting the US facility, the official said.

Although no casualties were immediately confirmed, the alert instructed personnel at the site to “duck and cover” while authorities evaluated the extent of the damage.

This episode follows a series of drone assaults targeting the US Victoria military base at Baghdad International Airport. In response, security checkpoints have been established at several locations throughout the capital.

Tensions in the region have surged since the US and Israel conducted a joint strike on Iran on February 28, which reportedly resulted in over 1,200 fatalities, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, more than 150 schoolgirls, and senior military figures.
