Drone Attack Hits US Diplomatic Site in Iraq Amid Iran Conflict
According to sources cited in reports, the strike targeted the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center, a large operational and logistical complex used by American diplomatic staff. The facility is situated close to Iraqi military installations and near Baghdad International Airport.
Reports indicated that six drones were launched toward the compound. Air defense systems managed to intercept five of them, while one drone successfully reached the facility and impacted the site.
No injuries were immediately reported following the attack. However, an internal alert instructed personnel at the compound to “duck and cover” while authorities began evaluating the extent of any damage.
The strike follows a series of recent drone incidents directed at the US Victoria military base located at Baghdad International Airport. In response to these security threats, authorities have established additional checkpoints at several locations across the Iraqi capital.
The attack occurred amid intensifying regional tensions that escalated after the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes against Iran on Feb. 28. Iranian officials say those attacks have resulted in more than 1,200 deaths, including the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as well as senior military officials and more than 150 schoolgirls.
In retaliation, Iran has reportedly carried out drone and missile strikes targeting Israeli urban centers and areas across the region that host US military facilities.
