Iraqi Groups Vow Support for Iran Against Possible US Attack
The Badr Organization stated it would stand by Iran if attacked, condemning what it called “American-Israeli arrogance.” Meanwhile, Abu Hussein al-Hamidawi, secretary-general of Iraq’s Kataib Hezbollah, urged followers “to prepare for a comprehensive war in support of and solidarity with the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Harakat al-Nujaba also expressed readiness to respond to any assault on Iran, according to local reports. Firas al-Yasser, a member of the group’s political bureau, warned, “Any attack on Iran would drag the region into a broader confrontation that would include the Gulf states and Iraq.” He predicted that Iran’s response would be “unconventional,” both in terms of targets and locations, and stressed, “The role of the resistance in Iraq will be pivotal in defending the security and stability of the region.” Al-Yasser added that “weakening Iran represents a preparatory phase for targeting Iraq in the future.”
The pledges come amid growing fears of a potential US strike in response to anti-government protests in Iran. The US administration has stated that all options, including military action, remain on the table as Washington and Israel seek changes to Iran’s ruling system. Iranian officials have warned that any US attack would provoke a “swift and comprehensive” response.
